Spring 2018 Skills, PCA and Safety Training

Training is an essential part of Palo Alto Little League's (PALL) safety program. PALL offers three kinds of training each year:

  • Coaching Skills - Taught by trained professionals, these sessions are designed to help managers and coaches learn the proper way to teach throwing, catching, fielding, batting and running techniques.
  • First Aid - These one-hour sessions are tailored by the American Red Cross specifically for PALL.
  • Positive Coaching - There are three levels of training presented by the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).

Within the first two years of volunteering as a manager or coach, each person is required to take at least one session of each kind of training, although volunteers are highly encouraged to complete this requirement in the first year. Those with a current PCA card from another training session can count this toward their PALL training requirement. Proof must be presented. Trained medical professionals (doctors, registered nurses, paramedics) are exempted from First Aid training. Training is good for three years.

In addition, at least one manager or coach from each team must attend must attend each of the three kinds of training every season.
